So it’s that dreadful time of the year again where one step out in the heat can completely melt you, but no worries, here we have a compilation of some beautiful yet hard to reach places you can visit this summer to beat the heat and relax.. or explore!

1.Roopkund Lake – The Mysterious lake of Skeleton

Reaching heights at 16,499 feet, the infamous Roopkund lake is a glacial land of mysteries. Gorgeous isn’t it? Not for too long though, this lake is located in some of the most inhospitable regions of the Himalayas, but nevertheless is a must-visit for those who are down for some adventure. Why mysterious you may ask? The mystery behind the “skeleton” is the unrecognized disappearance of people in the lake.. spooky isn’t it?

How to Get There – The Roopkund trail is possibly one of the hardest to cover. With a time-span of 5 days, this trek will take you through vast stretches of virgin forests, gurgling brooks, breath-taking campsites, and a lot of snow.

2. Khajjiar – The Mini Switzerland

Now this place is what we call “picture-perfect”. Located in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, this place is home to innumerous Deodar trees amplifying its beauty to another level. Amazing weather and in our opinion, a must visit for all those who love them some scenic beauty!

How To Get There – To get to this heaven, you gotta get to Chamba and thankfully for you, this ain’t any treks so just pack your bags, get a cab and there we go! (You could drive down for some extra adventure!)

3. Drass Valley – Experience The Frost!

You may have heard of the Markha Valley, but this Drass valley, unknown to most people is one of the coldest and most gorgeous valleys seen around. Located in the Kargil district of Jammu & Kashmir, it is often referred to as the “Gateway to Ladakh” and during spring and summer, this valley turns into a lush green and is home to over 1000 species of flowers!

How To Get There – The Drass is about 60 kms west of the Kargil Road, Now this place can give you the best of both worlds – trekking/driving! It’s completely your call, but we can tell you that it makes a wonderful 3 day trek and is absolutely worth it!

4. Malana Village – The Little Greece Of India

This one’s the best for all you trekkers – the malana trek is known to be one of the toughest and most rewarding in terms of location, weather and beauty. It is located in Himachal Pradesh and is home to a much conserved civilization! With magnificent peaks and beautiful rivers, this place makes its way to being called the “Greece of india”!

How To Get There – Getting to Malana is a matter of several hours… of sweat, breathlessness and hunger. It’s a short but difficult trek but the welcome is what makes it all worth it!

5. Gurez Valley – Explore Away! 

Gurez valley borders India and Pakistan and was under heavy control until 2007, but now the beauty of this place is shared with the world! It’s under snow half the year, but during summer the greenery seems never ending, making it an ideal destination for a vacation – it’s almost magical!

How To Get There – There are a variety of options you can consider while getting to Gurez – there are several tpyes of routes for trekkers ranging from beginner to pro. It’s totally your call, but it is one of the most beautiful treks ever.. with it’s lush greenery and amazing weather, be sure to fall in love!
