So Mr. Popular, you have been invited to the most happening parties for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. While I am impressed, I am also a tad bit concerned for you. You know, these late night parties that run till the wee hours of the morning tend to reflect on your face. Yes, everyone notices when you look tired or fatigued, and not in a good way.
Remember Susan Sarandon’s response in StepMom when Julia Roberts says “You look tired” — “It’s just a polite way of telling you that you look like shit”
Worn out may be a great look for your jeans, but that’s not the impression you wanna give when you meet someone. You see, there’s no rule that says that you have to look tired when you are. With just a little bit of effort – well, no one has to know!
How You Go to Sleep is Important
Take an extra minute to slip into your shorts, PJs or whatever you find comfortable.
If you can shower, that’s great. But even if you can’t, atleast wash your face and feet. Allow the smoke and sweat from the party to get washed off.
Keep the phone away now – you don’t want to fall into the YouTube Up Next trap at this hour.
Fix yourself a night cap, like chamomile tea or turmeric latte if you find it difficult to wind down.
Draw the curtains to block out light. You have to take the concept of Beauty Sleep seriously if you wish to fight fatigue after that wild party 🙂
How You Wake Up is Equally So
Do not wake up in a rush. If you are already behind schedule from the word go, you will be stressed and that doesn’t do you any favours when you’re already fatigued. So make sure you wake up at the right time, so that you can ease into the morning.
Now stretch! It gets your circulation going and you look fresh.
Use great-smelling products for your shower today. If your perfume and shower gel come from the same product range, it would work even better. With fragrances, the layering technique is the most effective!
If you find your face looking puffy and swollen up, use ice-cold water from the fridge to wash your face: it makes you look fresh instantly. You can thank me later 🙂
Remember to shave. You don’t need a shadow on your face when you’re already tired. On the other hand, if you have facial hair you’re proud of, make sure it’s well-groomed. (You may want to check out this beard kit).
Start the day with a fresh fruit, whatever’s your favourite. And follow it up with good, fresh, preferably home-cooked breakfast. Do not load your system with fast sugars at this time like canned fruit juices.
A multi-vitamin or a B-complex supplement is more effective than coffee in helping you fight fatigue after a night of partying.
And Finally, How You Turn Up
Now is the time to wear your favourite colour. Actually, scratch that. Make it others’ favourite colour – you know, the shirt that fetches you compliments every time you wear it. Ya, pull that out. If you’re still unsure, go with the equivalent of the LBD for guys: it’s the white-shirt-with-blue-jeans combo or an oxford-blue-with-black-trousers for a more formal look.
Make sure your clothes are crisply ironed and you’re ready to face the world.
On second thought, maybe not. Check yourself in the mirror. Wear your winning smile; admire yourself a bit.
