A gentleman’s guide to making the most of quarantine
Rule number one of surviving lockdown – there are no rules.
We, at The Man Company, are trying to keep a fluid routine so that we don’t burn out. There are a few no-brainers that come to mind when we think about having to spend an extended period of time in our homes- meditating, spending time with the family, reading books, binge-watching shows etc.
But we’ve been trying to figure out the best way to optimize our time considering we’re never, for the rest of our adult lives, going to see 21 days where we have the freedom and time to do literally anything we please (and yes, of course, while juggling office work- for those of you who are).
Learn a new language
Remember the three years in high school you spent trying to figure out a language, to no real effect? Do you remember the F of French or G German? Because we don’t. Start simple- we hear Spanish is an easy language to pick up!
Organize Your Laptop/Hard Drive(s)
Be honest… How many folders do you have that are named “Untitled” or “Misc”? Or even “Photos.” How many icons and screenshots does your desktop have? Wouldn’t you love to see all your photos in one folder, documents in one, and movies in another? Come on, get to it!
Virtual Music Events
Sure, it sounds a little lonely- BUT, think about it this way. You can soak in your favourite music without being in an overcrowded club/concert ground and long lines at the bar. No one is stepping on your feet or pushing you around. Doesn’t that sound just ideal?
Wild City will be your saviour here.
Get Your Grooming Routine Down
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit- so now’s your time. Start playing around with products that you’ve bought/have been bought for you. Figure out what you like, what you don’t like and start giving your skin and hair the TLC it deserves.
For our gym lads- we don’t really have to get into this one for you, right? You have your daily instagram challenges. For the rest of you who run for the hills whenever someone mentions the gym- now is when you start trying to develop a relationship with exercising. Start slow and see where it goes!
Declutter & Clean
Go through every cupboard, drawer, shelf and cabinet in your home and Marie Kondo the crap out of it. It’s time to let go of random items that you think you’ll have use for some time in the future… but really you probably won’t.
Listen To Podcasts
Whether they’re chats with your favourite celebrities or more informative podcasts about finances, economy and politics- make your way to ANY podcast app and you will definitely find something that’s up your alley. Let’s stop overloading our minds with misinformation and try something more enriching.
Whether it’s doing push ups, cooking butter chicken (trust us, it’s very complicated), confronting feelings you haven’t in a while or something as simple as texting your crush- do something that’ll get your adrenaline going. Lets promise ourselves that we won’t get complacent in the next 21 days.
(We’re sorry, this one isn’t applicable for those who live alone)
Sure, it’s nice to spend time with your family/friends (depending on who you live with) but make sure your media intake isn’t off the charts and that you actually get some time to yourself. Quarantine or not, you always need time to yourself so that you can wind down. We don’t want to burn out 3 days into the lockdown now, do we?
